about

From the album of the same name (Limelight LS 86059, 1963).

The Grand Old Man of electronic music, "becoming the first formally educated musician to devote his energies to the electronic medium," as the All-Music Guide puts it. Henry studied at the Paris Conservatory under Nadia Boulanger and Olivier Messiaen, and in 1948 collaborated with Pierre Schaeffer on what is generally regarded as the first piece of Musique Concrète, "Symphony pour un homme seul." In 1951 he co-founded, with Schaeffer, the Groupe de Recherches Musique Concrète, which became the Groupe de Recherches Musicales in 1958 after Henry left to found his own Studio Apsome. He has released literally dozens of major works and collaborated with contemporary rock groups Spooky Tooth, Urban Sax and Violent Femmes. An album of hip-hop remixes of his music has even been released. "Door and a Sigh" is famous so I had to include a clip, but as the "Metal Machine Music" of electronic music the excerpt included here is mercifully brief.

about

Anode Seattle, Washington

I've recorded under the name Anode since 1972, in much the same way that Winnie the Pooh lives under the name Sanders.

What I've recorded may not be 'music' to everyone's ears, since it includes "organized sound" and soundscapes, both real and imagined. I make no apologies; my skill set is limited.

My authentic soundscapes can be found over here:
