about

"Just A Blur"-as in "the last 25 years have gone by so fast they're just a blur, and I'm still doing the same things"-was put together in 1999 specifically for this sampler. The track was assembled using the same basic technique as my very first piece, "25-in. High" (1973), but updated for the computer age.

The sources used for "Just A Blur" were:
1) Jimi Hendrix - "...And The Gods Made Love" from Electric Ladyland (1969), 2) Gong - "Radio Gnome" from Camembert Electrique (1971), 3) Pink Floyd - "Several Species" from Ummagumma (1969), 4) Frank Zappa - "The Voice of Cheese" from Uncle Meat (1969), 5) door slam, walking, bong and answering machine noises in binaural sound from Cyborgasm (1993), 6) Weather Report - "Milky Way" from their first album (1971), 7) some talking from OTWHGA's French Danses [an Anode Production] (1999), 8) "Link" from the Riven soundtrack (1998), 9) Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Co. - "Train" from their first album (1973), 10) "1520 Calif. Ave SW" [another Anode Production] (1979), 11) "Psychologically Ultimate Seashore" from Environments 1 (1970), 12) Faust - "Why Don't You Eat Carrots" from their first album (1971), which itself contains 12a) The Rolling Stones - "Satisfaction" (1965) and 12b) The Beatles - "All You Need Is Love" (1967), 13) the tail end of "The Long Languid Fall From Grace" from Nittitunes 6 [another Anode Production] (1999), which itself contains 13a) Steve Roach - "The Dream Circle" from the album of the same name (1995), 13b) Roger Waters & Ron Geesin - "Body Transport" from Music From The Body (1970), 13c) Mandrake Memorial - "Barnably Plum" from Medium (1969), 13d) Faust - "The Sad Skinhead" from Faust IV (1973) and finally 13e) Robert Wyatt - "Little Red Riding Hood Hits The Road" featuring the great Ivor Cutler from Rock Bottom (1974).

I still love the way this piece seems to encapsulate the whole history of humankind into two-and-a-half minutes.

about

Anode Seattle, Washington

I've recorded under the name Anode since 1972, in much the same way that Winnie the Pooh lives under the name Sanders.

What I've recorded may not be 'music' to everyone's ears, since it includes "organized sound" and soundscapes, both real and imagined. I make no apologies; my skill set is limited.

My authentic soundscapes can be found over here:
