about

From "Walter Carlos By Request" (Columbia M32088, 1975).

Carlos is of course a pivotal character in the popularization of electronic music, with her best-selling series of Baroque realizations. Prior to her association with Bob Moog however she was attempting to carve a career in the "serious electronic music" field, and in fact she bridges the divide between the older "classical" electronic musicians and the generation of "popular" electronic musicians that followed. "Dialogues" is the earliest composition that Carlos still acknowledges, an academic exercise typifying the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center (and its RCA Mark III) at about the same time Tod Dockstader was turned away for lack of credentials, and Mimaroglu was holding court. Today at 60 Wendy is still doing some very sophisticated electronic music but she is known, to her great dismay, almost as much for her gender transition as for her music.

(This was written in 1999. In 2009 Wendy withdrew from public life over that dismay. If she is still creating great electronic music -- and I hope she is -- she no longer shares it with the public.)

about

Anode Seattle, Washington

I've recorded under the name Anode since 1972, in much the same way that Winnie the Pooh lives under the name Sanders.

What I've recorded may not be 'music' to everyone's ears, since it includes "organized sound" and soundscapes, both real and imagined. I make no apologies; my skill set is limited.

My authentic soundscapes can be found over here:
