about

From "Plunderphonic" (no label, no number, 1989).

A quick taste of perhaps the most famous of all contemporary tape artists, Toronto native John Oswald -- but again, his infamy stems less from his music than from legal actions against him. "Plunderphonic," by borrowing entirely and recognizably from such litigious sources as The Beatles and Michael Jackson, was intentionally daring retaliation, and he got it (in spades). Although distributed only to journalists (of whom I was one), and given free-of-charge to anyone else who asked, John was forced to withdraw the "Plunderphonic" disc and destroy the master tapes (hah!) after something like 600 CDs had gone out. This of course made it an instant collector's item and raised its profile all out of proportion to its importance, and several different permutations of the "Plunderphonic" disc quickly popped up online (as with Negativland's "U2.") John has since gone on to several other less famous (but more authorized) projects. Our own martyr to the cause.

about

Anode Seattle, Washington

I've recorded under the name Anode since 1972, in much the same way that Winnie the Pooh lives under the name Sanders.

What I've recorded may not be 'music' to everyone's ears, since it includes "organized sound" and soundscapes, both real and imagined. I make no apologies; my skill set is limited.

My authentic soundscapes can be found over here:
