about

Contents:
00:00-01:14 Dr. Bernard Krause - "The Ark of the Waterhole" from "African Adventures," Wild Sanctuary NSCD 232382, 1994. Only the best African soundscape ever: A Kenyan waterhole surrounded by hammerkop birds, wildebeests and colobus monkeys. Commissioned by the California Academy of Sciences.
00:22-01:16 Jean C. Roché - "Parc de Tsavo" from "Forêts et savanes africaines," Sittelle 22306, 1989. Von der Decken's Hornbills, Grey-Headed Bush Shrikes, Northern Brubrus, Glossy Drongos and about a dozen other bird species with unique calls.
00:51-01:20 "Hippopotamus" from "Animals of Africa: Sounds of the Jungle, Bush and Plain," Nonesuch Explorer 79705-2, 1973. Recordist(s) not listed. Recorded at Murchison Falls in Uganda.
01:10-01:52 Anthony Walker - "Zimbabwe" from "Nuits Africaines," Sittelle 30004-2, 1995. The woodpecker-like sounds of the Running Frog.
01:17-01:45 "Elephant" from "Animals of Africa" (above). Unmistakable.
01:39-02:50 Dr. Bernard Krause - "The Mighty, Great Gorilla" from "African Adventures" (above). A newborn can be heard cooing at 2:24, along with justifiable chest beating. Recorded in Dian Fossey's camp in Rwanda.
01:41-02:16 Jean C. Roché - "Parc Kruger" from "Forêts et Savanes" (above). More of the same bird from Tsavo that sounds like a depth-sounder.
01:58-02:25 "Hyena" from "Animals of Africa" (above). I always think of Hardy Har Har when I hear these guys.
02:12-02:45 Jean C. Roché - "Parc Du Niokolo-Koba" from "Forêts et savanes" (above). More hippos and Western Baboons, recorded in Senegal.
02:38-03:10 "Leopard" from "Animals of Africa" (above). Snarling at the vervet monkeys in the tree above her kill. Recorded at Aberdare Park in Kenya.
02:55-03:47 "Hyrax" from "Animals of Africa" (above). Small as a rabbit but noisier, these herbivores scream like a cat caught in a trap. I don't know what makes the sound like an air wrench. Recorded in Tsavo Park like Roché.
I had a dozen more recordings picked out, but they made the track too dense or too long.

about

Anode Seattle, Washington

I've recorded under the name Anode since 1972, in much the same way that Winnie the Pooh lives under the name Sanders.

What I've recorded may not be 'music' to everyone's ears, since it includes "organized sound" and soundscapes, both real and imagined. I make no apologies; my skill set is limited.

My authentic soundscapes can be found over here:
