about

Honestly I have no idea what any of this means. Maybe somebody can explain it to me. Maybe someday it will make sense.

If you squint your ears you can hear a lot of stuff peeking out (and it's not all pareidolia). I'm just happy I finally found a context where my "Energy Fields" works.

The "numbers stations" that pop up here are a fascinating mystery in themselves. Nobody knows for sure the story behind them, or at least nobody publicly, but they're believed to be some kind of spy communication network from the Eastern Bloc.

I would like to acknowledge the influence of Joseph Kamaru on this album, though please don't hold it against him.

Music holds three roles in my life: there is music I listen to for fun, which is intricate and puzzling and engages the intellect. There is music I play in the background while reading, which must be the opposite; non-intrusive, instrumental and continuous. Then there is a third category, into which "Hedge Cables" falls. This is music or organized sound that has three-dimensionality and depth but no essential direction or development. Its role is not to "entertain" as such but to focus the mind on tiny details and paradoxically the wider overall picture. I use this category late at night or early in the morning to distract me from racing thoughts, from "evening thoughts," from despair over the news of the day. It often lulls me to sleep, or at least an inner calm not achievable by any other means.

about

Anode Seattle, Washington

I've recorded under the name Anode since 1972, in much the same way that Winnie the Pooh lives under the name Sanders.

What I've recorded may not be 'music' to everyone's ears, since it includes "organized sound" and soundscapes, both real and imagined. I make no apologies; my skill set is limited.

My authentic soundscapes can be found over here:
