about

This was a compilation of favorite Musique Concrète pieces I put together for myself in 1999. I immodestly included two of my own pieces: the very first "tape music" piece I ever did ("25-in. High") and a new piece recorded especially for this compilation ("Just A Blur").

Detailed notes are behind each track.

Original liner notes:
"'Electro-Acoustic Music' refers to a particular type of electronic music in which tape recorders are used to treat and assemble sounds. The style evolved pre-synthesizer (1953-1965 or so), and uses "found sounds" or at best primitive tone generators. It is also known as Musique Concrète (in France), "tape music," "organized sound" or just plain "electronic music" (before Bob Moog and Alan R. Perlman). The limitations of the medium drove the practitioners to extreme inventiveness, and quite a variation in styles resulted. EAM presents some of the most sublime listening on the planet, and also some of the most ridiculous. I have been collecting EAM since the early '70s, and this compilation represents a sampling of some of my favorite moments from much longer tracks.

The extraneous surface noise from the source LPs, to my way of thinking, is an integral part of the experience of electro-acoustic music, placing it both in time and in history."

about

Anode Seattle, Washington

I've recorded under the name Anode since 1972, in much the same way that Winnie the Pooh lives under the name Sanders.

What I've recorded may not be 'music' to everyone's ears, since it includes "organized sound" and soundscapes, both real and imagined. I make no apologies; my skill set is limited.

My authentic soundscapes can be found over here:
